Abstract:
This research looks at the relationship between urban heritage conservation and social and
economic development of the area. Effort is to develop and test some reliable indicators that
can effectively be used regularly, meaningfully, credibly and consistently to measure the
economic impact of historic preservation. over time (PlaceEconomics , 2011). This study
aims to understand three broad ideas: (i) cultural, spiritual, political and aesthetic value of
built heritage and attitude of people towards such values that cannot be captured by the
market, (ii) economic value of heritage conservation through and (iii), make a case for
increased public and private intervention in heritage conservation initiatives.
This study adopts a case study approach and two historic areas of Delhi, namely,
Nizamudinn Basti in South Delhi and Shahjahanabad in Old Delhi, have been covered.
