Abstract:
Waste being considered as a waste is a problem which is not letting urban society change
its behaviour and perspective towards garbage. Changing consumption patterns in urban
cities of India, coupled with an improved standard of living is a significant factor in
creating an additional pressure on the municipal solid waste across the Indian cities. Land
being a scarce resource is required to be managed properly and so to unbundle the
services in the era of technological advancement and innovations, services have been
made open to the private sector so that they could incorporate their valuable experience to
it. This study evaluates private players as well as the public entities who join hands to
enter this forum and tries to understand their functioning and also examine the current
public policy involved when location of a disposal plant is determined. (in italics)
