Abstract:
The No Detention Policy (NDP) has been a bone of contention for many years now.
Many arguments in favour of it and against it have been made from time to time.
However, the lack of empirical research in this area has led to a more subjective and
opinion-based arguments around it without incorporating the viewpoints of the most
important stakeholders, teachers and students. This study is an analytic-inductive
qualitative research focused on understanding the ground reality of this policy and its
implementation. Apart from this, the study will help to find answers to questions
pertaining to what is happening in the teaching–learning process due to no-detention
and the institutions and issues that need to be addressed. The study includes:
- Review of the primary education status of the country
- The arguments around the NDP
- The Impact of NDP on students, teachers, and the education system
The end goal of the study is to identify the impact of NDP on educational
progression in the schools of Delhi and use this research to suggest recommendations
to improve the overall quality of the public school system.
